Mostly in the middle

I found this Blogthings “five factor personality test” via Mauigirl’s Meanderings. Sometimes these quizzes come up with some pretty out-of-left-field results, but for me, this one seemed to be just about right on target – read the results, and you’ve already gotten to know me pretty well.

Your Five Factor Personality Profile

Extroversion:

You have low extroversion.

You are quiet and reserved in most social situations.

A low key, laid back lifestyle is important to you.

You tend to bond slowly, over time, with one or two people.

Conscientiousness:

You have medium conscientiousness.

You’re generally good at balancing work and play.

When you need to buckle down, you can usually get tasks done.

But you’ve been known to goof off when you know you can get away with it.

Agreeableness:

You have medium agreeableness.

You’re generally a friendly and trusting person.

But you also have a healthy dose of cynicism.

You get along well with others, as long as they play fair.

Neuroticism:

You have medium neuroticism.

You’re generally cool and collected, but sometimes you do panic.

Little worries or problems can consume you, draining your energy.

Your life is pretty smooth, but there’s a few emotional bumps you’d like to get rid of.

Openness to experience:

Your openness to new experiences is medium.

You are generally broad minded when it come to new things.

But if something crosses a moral line, there’s no way you’ll approve of it.

You are suspicious of anything too wacky, though you do still consider creativity a virtue.

How did the quiz turn out for you?

  1. I decided to play along too.

I pretty much got the same responses for each of the factors as you did.

The only place we varied was on Neuroticism. I scored low in that category:
    Neuroticism:

You are very emotionally stable and mentally together.
Only the greatest setbacks upset you, and you bounce back quickly.
Overall, you are typically calm and relaxed – making others feel secure.

I think that’s fairly accurate most of the time. I know at work my calmness and evenness are bonuses. It makes me one of the easier people to come to when someone has a problem or question.

I actually didn’t believe this about myself for a long time. It wasn’t until I was working alongside a coworker who turned everything into a crisis that I realized that it was probably true. Haha

  2. You are very medium. 🙂 I scored low on everything. I laughed when I was low on agreeableness. I think my wife would agree. 🙂

  3. Oh, I should say I disagree with my level of extroversion. I’d say I’m medium at least. To be an acurrate test they need about 400 more question that ask all the same things in different ways. But I’m just being a geek about it. 🙂

  4. Literary Feline – I wish I scored lower on neuroticism, but I think my score was just about right. Glad it wasn’t higher, though :-).

Half the people I work with are gifted at turning everything into a crisis. Can I come work where you are?

Mike – I’m not sure “low on agreeableness” is the same as “disagreeable,” but did you wife agree? 🙂

And yeah, I’m probably being geeky too, but you’re right about needing a lot more questions for this to be truly accurate. But for a quick sketch, I thought it did pretty well.

  6. PlanetBooks – Thanks for playing along, Karen! It’s nice to know that at least one extrovert likes it around here – and gratifying that I have readers less neurotic than I am :-)!

  7. You sound extremely well-balanced 🙂

I’m so hopelessly behind on posting and reading, I’m going to have to pass on taking the test for now.

  8. April – It’s just an ugly rumor, I swear :-).

Seriously, though, I do try to keep things on an even keel. After all, you know, it’s all about balance.
