‘Tis the season to play Christmas Q&A

I got this via e-mail from one of my offline book club buddies, and thought I’d answer it here. If you’d like to play along, please do – just leave me a comment so I’ll know to go check out your answers!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Depends on the gift. Sometimes I wrap it and then put it in a gift bag.
2. Tree – real or artificial? Fake
3. When do you put the tree up? It’s actually not up yet, but it will be by tomorrow!. It’s usually either the second or third weekend of December, depending on when the kids are here.
4. When do you take the tree down? During the first week of January; I like to have it up for the Twelve Days of Christmas, but everyone else is usually tired of it by New Year’s
5. Like eggnog? No thanks
6. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, a small one I received as a gift years ago – and I still put it up every year, even though we’re heathens
7. Favorite gift received as a child? I don’t really remember – sad, isn’t it? Then again, it’s been many years since I was a child…
8. Hardest person to buy for? My sister and brother-in-law
9. Easiest person to buy for? My husband, thanks to his very thorough list-making
10. Worst Christmas gift ever? Can’t remember…I have probably blocked it out or long since gotten rid of it, but chances are it came from someone at work
11. Mail or email a Christmas card? Mail, although not many of them go out these days
12. Favorite Christmas movie? A Christmas Story
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? If I see something that strikes me for someone, I’ll start at random in the fall, but it doesn’t get serious until after Thanksgiving (after the day after Thanksgiving, that is)
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I’ll never tell…
15. Favorite food to eat on Christmas? We don’t really have a traditional Christmas treat, but all the food seems special!
16. Clear or colored tree lights? Clear
17. Favorite Christmas song? “Angels We Have Heard On High” and “Holly Jolly Christmas”
18. Travel during Christmas or stay home? Home, thank goodness – they can come to us!
19. Can you name Santa’s reindeer? Yes, do you want to test me?
20. Can you name all seven dwarfs? Yes, unless I forget one or two…
21. Angel or Star on tree top? Most years, the tree top is naked – it’s been really tough to find something that seems right
22. Open presents on Christmas Eve or morning? Both! We open some with my sister’s family at their house on Christmas Eve, and the rest on Christmas morning.
23. Most annoying thing about this time of year? The fact that it starts showing up in stores in September and by the time Christmas actually gets here, people are just tired of it!

  1. Alisonwonderland – My tree isn’t naked this year! I’d forgotten that my husband had a star in his Christmas-decorations box, so we’re using that.
